Committed To Advancing Water Well Drilling In Montana

We are a third generation, family owned and operated water well drilling and pump service company. We proudly provide quality, dependable, and friendly service to our customers in Cascade county and the surrounding areas. We work hard to keep the reputation that our past generations have worked hard to build. The foundation of which this business is built on is hard work, integrity, quality work, and friendly service.

Pat, the founder, was raised in Oilmont, MT, where he began his career by working on the oil rigs when he was around 16 years old. He started drilling using old wooden rigs, then onto using a Cable Tool and Rotary Drills. He worked for Trident Drilling and Owen Drilling for approximately 14 years where he traveled around the state working. Pat’s wife, Lila, accepted a teaching position on the Fairfield bench. Pat moved his wife and three kids to Great Falls in 1961. When first moving to Great Falls, Pat worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield with his best friend, and later the business’s accountant and advisor, Arvin Swenson. Pat didn’t want to be inside he enjoyed working outdoors. In order to be home, he knew he would have to drill for water instead of oil. He had a plan, knowledge, knew how to work hard, and experience. Pat spoke to other water well drillers in the area to verify that the community could support an additional water driller. He went door to door, knocking on doors and visited local establishments to drum up business. Pat was easy to like. He purchased his first cable tool from a local driller, and he was off, establishing his business and becoming licensed to drill in 1963.

Pat’s two sons, young Pat and Rick, worked for the business as they grew up. There were times that old Pat would take them out of school to help when needed. After graduating from high school young Pat attended college in Bozeman, after college, he moved to Billings. While in Billings, young Pat worked for Digger Drilling and soon returned home to work for the family business. After high school, Rick worked for the Lyman Ranch south of Great Falls and later came back to work for his dad drilling. Both young Pat and Rick became licensed in 1977. Pat and Rick purchased the business from old Pat in the 1990's. Just because the boys took over didn’t mean that old Pat retired. He drilled his last well the week before his passing in 2000.

Old Pat, young Pat and Rick have all been on the board of the Montana Water Well Drillers Association. All three have been very active in the continuation of water well drilling in Montana. Young Pat is going on almost 30 years as the President of the Board of Water Well Drillers. Young Pat has worked hard to fight for our water well rights, access and the advancement of water well drilling in Montana. Being on the Board he works hard to make sure that all drillers in Montana are following the laws and regulations.

Young Pat’s son, Tyler, began working for the family business in 1996, before that even, at a young age, he followed his dad, grandpa, and uncle around learning the business. Tyler worked for the family business until he graduated from high school. Tyler moved to Havre to attend college, where he worked for Hi-Line Drilling. With a bachelor’s degree in hand, he returned home to again work for the family business in 2004. Tyler worked side by side his dad and uncle until their retirement in 2017, when Tyler and his wife, Stacey, purchased the family business.
